MARKAKOL ZHAILAU
This journey to one of the most picturesque and secluded corners of Kazakhstan, the protected lands of Markakol, follows the circular route Ust-Kamenogorsk – Markakol – Old Austrian Road – Katon-Karagay – Ust-Kamenogorsk.

You will stay in cozy traditional yurts, surrounded by mountains and blooming zhailau. Here you will enjoy the peace and pristine beauty of these protected areas and experience the true spirit of nomadic culture.

DAY 1
Ust-Kamenogorsk – Kurchum Bridge – Markakol – Ethno Village (Yurt Camp)

— Early departure from Ust-Kamenogorsk at 4:00 AM

— Breakfast en route

— Travel across Kurchum Bridge

— Travel through Markakol Village, where the legendary Old Austrian Road, built in 1915-1916, begins Austrian prisoners of war

— Stop at the Mramorny Pass (1371 m), which offers a picturesque panorama of the white sands of the Akkum Desert in China.

— Then we descend into the Akzhaylau Valley (White Pasture, translated from Kazakh as "zhaylau" means "summer mountain pasture").

— Arrival at the ethno-village, accommodation in a yurt camp.

— Lunch

— Walk, rest, free time.

— Dinner

— Rest, archery, evening by the campfire, tea with Altai herbs, homemade baursaks, and kurt—nomad cheese. Horseback riding is available for an additional fee.

DAY 2
Ethnoaul

— Breakfast

— Walking tour to Lake Shoptykol

— Return to the ethnoaul

— Lunch

— Kamcha weaving workshop

— Dinner

— Rest, archery, evening by the campfire, tea with Altai herbs. Horseback riding is available for an additional fee.

DAY 3

Ethnoaul – Urunkhayka – Old Austrian Road – Katon-Karagay – Ust-Kamenogorsk


— Breakfast

— Departure to Urunkhayka village

— Arrival, walk to Lake Markakol and the 700-year-old larch tree in the Markakol Nature Reserve

— Lunch

— Departure to Ust-Kamenogorsk via the Old Austrian Road

— Stop at the Burkhat Pass (2141 m). A viewing platform overlooking a beautiful mountain panorama and the Bukhtarma River valley. Tea and snacks.

— Stop on the shore of the Bukhtarma Reservoir, swimming, dinner.

— Visit to the "Medovaya Marka" meadery.
